Watching Soon

Since I haven't had time to watch any films since my last blog, I have decided to grace the internet with a list of films I plan to be watching soon.

In addition to those films, I plan to watch the Young and Dangerous films (all twelve), and the Police Story trilogy of films. Expect more than a few others to pop up as well.

(Films pictured, L-R: The 36TH Chamber of Shaolin, A Battle of Wits, Whispers and Moans, An Empress and the Warriors, Hollywood Hong Kong, The Missing Gun, Lost in Beijing, The Good Wife, White Valentine, PK.COM.CN)

monkeytail, Rizzob the Monkey, and the Monkey King

Long ago, in Ancient China, there was an immortal known as the Monkey King. Not so long ago, it was made into two films, known as A Chinese Odyssey Part 1: Pandora's Box, and A Chinese Odyssey Part 2: Cinderella. Even closer to the present time, these films were watched by myself, known as monkeytail, my cat/roomie Elliott, and my stuffed monkey, Rizzob (the B is silent, and he was not named after the character from Grease).

All ready for another night of Hong Kong film viewing, we three non-kings sat down with a bottle of cola, a package of gummi candy, and a remote low on batteries. After the great multitude of credits, the first film began. 88 minutes of crotch-kicking hilarity later, with the first film over, my lazy compatriots of the cinema refused to change discs to the second film, requiring me to leave my warm and comfy spot to do it myself.

Though we all thoroughly enjoyed the first film, it did't quite captivate us. Following the recap at the beginning of the second film, Rizzob and I looked like this until the closing credits:

I was enchanted, much the same as the Monkey King, by the beauty of actress Athena Chu; while Rizzob was in awe of actor Stephen Chow's comic timing. Elliott was perhaps less thrilled at the films than Rizzob and I:

At the conclusion to the two films, we came to the conclusion that they rocked. Stephen Chow was supremely funny, Athena Chu and Karen Mok were charming, and the films were well produced. If you like Hong Kong films, Stephen Chow, epic comedies, and you haven't heard of either A Chinese Odyssey Part 1: Pandora's Box, or A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella, you should most definitely watch them. If you have already seen them, watch them again.
